Why Canada week? Because when Stephen A. Smith makes dismissive remarks about hockey, more people get interested in hockey.
Here’s how it goes. I post three questions. You submit your answers: you can e-mail them to me (tracksuperfan@yahoo.com) if you don’t want anyone else stealing your answers, or you can post them in the comments, or you can tweet them to me (@tracksuperfan).
I randomly select among those with the most correct answers for a Tim Horton’s gift card. The chain is running its “Roll Up the Rim” game, so you could win a whole lot more.
Today’s three questions are all about crowds (or lack thereof) at Canadian events.
Easy: What one-off event in June 1997 drew 30,000 rowdy fans to Toronto’s SkyDome?
Medium: In terms of number of finishers in 2012, what is the smallest marathon in Canada?
Hard: What is the single-day record attendance for a track and field event in Canada? For this one, the “correct” answer is the one closest to the actual number.
1. The 150-metre farce between Donovan Bailey and Michael Johnson brought fans out and let them down.
2. The Fools Marathon in St. Catherines , ON had 3 finishers in 2012 – my guess is that that counts as the smallest.
3. The single-day record for track attendance probably comes from the 1976 OLympics and I will guess that about 58,001 fans filled the stadium for at least one day.
